There are mainly two types of fenugreek cultivated in our country. One of which is common fenugreek and the other is kasoori fenugreek. Being rich in medicinal properties, its grains and dry leaves are used as spices. At the same time, its fresh green leaves enhance the taste of vegetables. climate and soil

• It is cultivated in cold climate.

• Fenugreek can be cultivated in any type of soil containing fossils.

• Loamy and sandy loam soils are best for its cultivation.

Seed dosage and seed treatment

• Before sowing treat seed with 2 gm Bavistin per kg.

• If you are cultivating normal fenugreek then 8 to 10 grams of seed is required per acre of field.

• For the cultivation of kasoori fenugreek, 4 to 6 kg of seed is required per acre of land.

Field preparation and sowing method

• While preparing the field, firstly do 1 deep plowing and 2 to 3 times light plowing.

• After plowing, level the soil and make it friable.

• Sow the seeds in rows. This makes weeding easier. The distance of the rows should be 20 to 25 cms.

• Do not plant the seeds deeper than 5 cm. Germination is difficult at higher depths.

Fertilizer and weed control

• For good yield, mix 4 to 6 tonnes of cow dung or compost in the field per acre about 3 weeks before sowing.

• Apart from this, add 15 kg of Nitrogen, 10 kg of Phosphorous and 10 kg of Potash per acre of field.

• After 30 days of sowing, do weeding. Second weeding - weeding is done 60 days after sowing.

irrigation and harvesting

• Do not let the soil lack moisture. If there is lack of moisture in the field, apply light irrigation after sowing.

• Irrigation is given at an interval of 10 to 15 days in cold season and 7 to 10 days in summer season.

• Green leaves of fenugreek can be harvested after 4 weeks of sowing.

• Harvest when the leaves turn yellow and fall for grains.
