how to cultivate arabica

Its leaves are also used along with the tubers of Arabica, so farmers get a lot of benefit from its cultivation. The tubers of Arabica are used for vegetable , pickle etc. At the same time, pakodas and greens are made from its leaves.   • Hot and moist climate is required for better crop of arbi.

  • The temperature of 21 to 27 degree Celsius is best for its cultivation.

  • Extremely hot and dry weather adversely affects the yield.

  • Sandy loam soil is considered best for its cultivation.

  • The pH level of the soil should be between 5.5 to 7.0.

Planting time and seed treatment

  • Arabica is transplanted from June to July.

  • In North India, transplant it in February-March month.

  • Before transplanting, 5 grams per kg of tubers should be treated by dipping it in Ridomil MZ-72 for 10 to 15 minutes.

Field preparation and planting method

  • First of all, do deep plowing in the field one after the other with a soil turning plow.

  • After this, make the soil of the field fine by doing light plowing 3 to 4 times.

  • Make beds 10 cm high from the ground surface. Keep a distance of 60 cm between all the beds.

  • Plant the tubers at a distance of 45 cm on the beds and 5 cm in depth.

manures and fertilizers

  • While preparing the field, mix 40 to 60 quintals of decomposed cow dung per acre of land.

  • Mix 16 kg of Nitrogen, 25 kg of Phosphorous and 25 kg of Potash per acre of land.

  • Spray 16 kg of nitrogen in the standing crop.

Irrigation and Weed Control

  • Irrigate at every 7 to 10 days interval for 5 months after transplanting.

  • If there is no rain, apply irrigation at 15 days interval.

  • Weeds can be easily controlled through weeding.

cutting and digging

  • It takes 150 to 225 days for the crop to become ready depending on the variety.

  • The leaves can be harvested about 40-50 days after transplanting the tubers.

  • The leaves become small in size and turn yellow and dry up, then it should be excavated.
