The yield of wheat depends on irrigation done at the right time and in the right amount. The amount of irrigation also depends on the soil of the field. If you want to get a good crop of wheat, then you can get information about irrigation management from here.

• Light soil: If wheat is being cultivated in light soil, then the crop will require 5 to 6 irrigations. In such a situation, you should do the first irrigation 20 to 25 days after sowing. Give second irrigation 40-45 days after sowing. Give third irrigation 60 to 65 days after sowing. Fourth irrigation should be done after 80-85 days of sowing. Fifth irrigation should be done after 100-105 days of sowing. Last irrigation should be given at the time of seed filling i.e. 115 to 120 days after sowing.

• Loamy soil: Even better crop can be obtained by doing 4 irrigations in loamy soil. First irrigation should be done 20 to 25 days after the sowing of wheat in loamy soil. Second irrigation should be done at the time of emergence of buds i.e. 45-50 days after sowing. Third irrigation can be done 70 to 80 days after sowing and fourth irrigation can be done at the time of feeding of milk i.e. 95 to 110 days after sowing.

• In the absence of proper irrigation system: In areas with water scarcity, even 2 or 3 irrigations can yield a high quality crop. In such a situation, first irrigation should be given 20-25 days after sowing, second irrigation at the time of emergence of earrings and third irrigation at the time of milk formation in earrings.

Keep these things in mind while irrigating

• In light soils, irrigation should be done to a depth of about 6 cm. Whereas in loamy soil, irrigation should be done to a depth of about 8 cm.

• While preparing the field, prepare the beds in the field. This makes irrigation easier.

• Light irrigation should be done at short interval of time in fertile soil.

• If there is no irrigation system then you should irrigate only once. This irrigation should be done 20-25 days after sowing.
