Some major varieties of lemon

Lemon is mainly cultivated in Bihar, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Himachal, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu , Karnataka and Assam. Many varieties of lemon are cultivated in India.   • Kagji Lemon: Fruits of this variety are small to medium in size. Each fruit weighs 40 to 60 grams. Its peels are thin and have a high amount of juice. It is very sour in taste. As the fruits ripen, their color turns yellow.

  • Rangpur Lemon: A variety suitable for areas with moderate rainfall. The fruits of this variety of lemon mature late. It is most commonly used in making syrup.

  • Baramasi: This variety of plants bears fruit twice a year. Each plant yields 55 to 60 kg of lemon fruits. Its fruits ripen in July - August and February - March.

  • Chakradhar: Its fruits do not have seeds. The shape of the fruit is round. Plants start bearing fruits after about 4 years of transplanting. Its fruits come in January- February, June-July and September-October.

  • P.K. M. 1: Its fruits are large and round. The fruits turn attractive yellow after ripening. Each lemon contains about 53 percent juice.
