Selection of improved varieties of lentils

Many varieties of lentils are cultivated in our country. In this post, we are telling the yield, duration of harvest and other features of some of the major varieties. You can choose any variety according to these characteristics.
some major varieties

Malika (K75): This variety is suitable for cultivation in Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat. It takes 120 - 125 days for this variety of crop to mature. Its seeds are pink in color and large in size. The yield per acre of land is 4.8 to 6 quintals.

Pant L-406: This variety is cultivated in the plains of North, East and West. Along with this, it is also cultivated prominently in Jammu and Kashmir. The crop is ready to ripen in about 150 days. This variety is resistant to rust disease. 12 to 13 quintal crop is obtained per acre of land.

Pusa Vaibhav (L 4147) : It is one of the varieties suitable for cultivation in Sanchit and Barani areas. Its grains are small in size. Iron content is high in this variety. About 7-8 quintals of crop is produced per acre of land.

Pusa Shivalik (L 4076): This variety was developed in the year 1995. It is mainly cultivated in western Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh. It can also be successfully cultivated in rainfed areas. It takes 120 to 125 days for the crop to mature. About 6 quintals of crop is obtained per acre of field.
Apart from these varieties, many other varieties are also cultivated. In which Pusa Masoor 5 (L 4594), Pant L 234, BR 25, Noori (IPL 81), V L Masoor 125, WBL 58, JL-3, Sherry (DPL 62), Arun (PL- 777-12), Pant Masoor 8 etc. Many other varieties are also included.
