Due to the increasing demand for medicinal plants, those cultivating them can earn good profits. Sanaya cultivation is also included in these plants. The height of Sanaya plants is 1 to 2 meters. It is extensively cultivated in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, West Bengal and Tripura. It is cultivated in an area of about 25,000 hectares in our country. Suitable time for cultivation of Sanaya

  • In North Indian regions, it is sown in the month of February-March.

  • In unirrigated areas of South India, sowing should be done in the month of September-October.

  • In irrigated areas of South India, it can be sown in the month of February-March.

Suitable soil and climate

  • For its cultivation sandy loam soil, red loam soil and hard coarse loam soil, saline loam soil and fertile clay soil are suitable.

  • Cultivation in saline soil hinders the growth of plants.

  • pH of soil The level should be up to 8.5.

Seed quantity and method of seed treatment

  • In irrigated areas 6 kg of seed is required for cultivation per acre of land.

  • In irrigated areas, 2.4 kg seed is sufficient for row sowing.

  • In unirrigated areas, 10 kg of seed is required for cultivation per acre of land.

  • Before sowing, 3 gm Thiram per kg seed should be treated.

Field preparation and sowing method

  • While preparing the field, first do deep plowing for 1 time. This destroys the weeds already present in the field.

  • After this, make the soil level by doing light plowing 2 to 3 times.

  • 4 Tons of FYM per acre of land for good plant growth. Use (dung manure).

  • Sow the seeds in rows for better yield.

  • Keep a distance of 45 cm between all the rows.

  • Plant to plant distance should be about 30 cm.

  • Sow the seeds at a depth of 1 to 2 cm.

Irrigation and Weed Control

  • Apply light irrigation immediately after sowing.

  • Give second irrigation after 25 to 30 days of sowing.

  • In this way about 4 to 6 irrigations are done from sowing to harvesting.

  • Irrigation should be done according to the moisture content in the soil.

  • To control weeds, weeding is done as per requirement.

harvest and storage

  • The first harvesting can be done about 60 to 65 days after sowing.

  • Take second harvesting 90 to 110 days after sowing.

  • The third harvesting of the crop is done 135 to 150 days after sowing.

  • After harvesting the leaves should be dried in open sunlight for 6 to 10 hours.

  • Store the peels of leaves and beans in a moisture-free place.

  • In irrigated areas, 3.2 to 4 quintal leaves and 1.6 to 2 quintal bean peels are obtained per acre of land.

  • In unirrigated areas, 2 to 2.8 quintals of leaves and 0.8 to 1.2 quintals of bean peels are obtained per acre of land.
