Improved varieties of cowpea
In plains, cowpea can be cultivated from February to October. Protein is found in abundance in it. Along with protein, it is a good source of phosphorus and calcium. Before cultivating cowpea, it is necessary to know about its varieties. From here you can get information about some of the major varieties of cowpea.

Pusa Barsati: This variety with light green beans is cultivated during the rainy season. Its crop gets ripe in 45 days. The yield per acre of land is 28 to 30 quintals.

Arka Garima: The height of its plants is 2 to 3 meters. It is cultivated during spring and rainy season.

Pusa Dofasli: This variety is cultivated in spring, summer and all rainy seasons. It takes 45 to 50 days for the crop to be ready. A yield of 30 to 32 quintals is given per acre of land.

Pusa Phalguni: Its plants are bush like and pods are dark green in color. The crop is ready in about 60 days. 28 to 30 quintal crop is obtained per acre of land.

Amba: It is cultivated in Kharif season. The color of its grains is red. The crop is ready in about 95-100 days.

C-152: It takes about 105 to 110 days for this variety of crops to become ready. Kharif season is best for its cultivation. It is cultivated in Bihar , Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi as well as in Jammu and Kashmir.
Apart from these varieties, Type-2, 68 FS, Swarna, Pusa Do Fasli, Pusa Sampada, Shrestha etc. are also included in the improved varieties of cowpea.
