If you are cultivating cowpea, then prepare the field in this way
Cowpea can be grown in summer season along with Kharif and Rabi. Farmers cultivating in Kharif can sow cowpea seeds from June to July. The months of October to November are best for sowing seeds for Rabi cultivation. For cultivation in the summer season, the seeds should be sown between the second week of March to the last week.
-
In this summer season cowpea cultivation does not require much tillage.
-
Before sowing cowpea, it is necessary to do a deep plowing in the field. Due to this, the roots of many types of weeds come up and get destroyed by the sun.
-
After this, make the soil fine by plowing the field 2 to 3 times.
-
If you want, after plowing the field once, you can prepare the field by using disc harrow.
-
About 2 weeks before sowing, add about 22 to 25 tonnes of compost per acre of land. This gives good yield of crops.
-
At the time of last plowing of the field, apply Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potash in the ratio of 20:60:60 kg.
-
Make good drainage system in the field. Water logging causes damage to the crop. This also increases the risk of seed rot.
