A few decades ago, no one could even think of farming without soil. But technology has made it possible. Although new inventions are being made in the field of agriculture, hydroponic technology is being considered as a wonderful invention for farming. How hydroponic technology is cultivated without soil and how fertilizers and nutrients are delivered to the plants through this technology? How much cost comes in farming through this technology? Does it have benefits? If you also have such questions in your mind and want complete information about hydroponic farming techniques, then read this post carefully.

What is Hydroponic Farming?

  • It is a modern farming technique. In this technique, cultivation is done without soil, by controlling the climate. In hydroponic farming, plants are grown only in water or in sand and pebbles with water.

  • Hydroponic cultivation is done in about 15 to 30 degree centigrade temperature and 80 to 85 percent humidity.

How are nutrients supplied to plants?

  • We all know that soil contains many nutrients needed by plants. Now the big question arises that if the soil is not being used then how do the plants get nutrients?

  • In this method many nutrients and minerals like phosphorus, nitrogen, magnesium, calcium, potash, zinc, sulphur, iron, etc. This solution is mixed with water at stipulated time intervals. Due to which the plants get all the nutrients.

How is hydroponic farming done?

  • In hydroponic farming, plants are grown using pipes. Several holes remain in the pipe, into which the plants are planted. The roots of the plants are immersed in the nutrient-rich water inside the pipe.

  • Small plant crops can be cultivated through this technique. Including carrots, turnips, cucumber, radishes, potatoes, capsicum, peas, peppers, strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, watermelon, cantaloupe, pineapple, celery, basil, etc.

How much does hydroponic farming cost?

  • It costs more initially to install a hydroponic system. With this method more plants can be grown in less space. So after some time farmers can earn more profit by this method.

  • If we talk about setting up hydroponic technology per acre area, then it costs about 50,00,000 rupees.

  • If you want to start it on a small scale then you can set it up in 100 square feet area also. It may cost from 50,000 to 60,000 rupees. About 200 plants can be grown in 100 square feet.

  • Apart from this, you can also start it at your home or terrace.

What are the advantages of hydroponic farming?

  • This technique saves water on cultivation. If hydroponic farming is done properly, up to 90 percent of water can be saved.

  • More plants can be grown in less space by cultivating this method as compared to traditional farming.

  • Nutrients are not wasted. The nutrients used are easily available to the plants.

  • Good quality crop can be obtained.

  • In this technique, plants are not affected by weather, animals or any other external, biotic and abiotic factors.
