Growing Green Pea Varieties

It is necessary to select improved varieties for good yield of peas. The yield of peas depends on its different varieties. If you want to cultivate peas in this season, then you can get information about some improved varieties of peas from here.

Pea varieties

  • Pusa Bharat: This variety was developed in the year 2001. It is one of the suitable varieties for cultivation in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Assam. 6 quintals of crop is produced per acre of land. It is one of the early maturing varieties. The crop is ready about 100 days after sowing. This variety is resistant to powdery mildew disease.

  • Pusa Shree: Developed in the year 2013, this variety is suitable for early sowing in the plains of North India. The crop is ready for harvesting 50 to 55 days after sowing. Each pod produces 6 to 7 grains. On cultivating per acre of land, 20 to 21 quintals of green beans are obtained.

  • Pusa Panna: Developed in 2001, this variety is suitable for cultivation in western Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand. It is one of the quick growing varieties. Harvesting can be done about 90 days after sowing.

  • Arkal: This is one of the early varieties. The height of its plants is 50 to 60 cm. Per acre land yields 26 to 28 quintals of peas.

  • Hisar Harit (PH1) : First harvesting of pods can be done 70 days after sowing. The shape of its pods is long and the pods are full of grains. If cultivated per acre of land, the yield ranges from 30 to 35 quintals.

  • Bioseed P10: It is included in high yielding varieties. Each pod contains 9 to 11 grains. Pods can be harvested in 65 to 75 days after sowing.

Apart from this, there are many other varieties of peas, by cultivating which you can get a better crop. These include Bonneville, Azad Matar 1, Kashi Uday (VRP 6), Kashi Shakti (VRP 7) Early Badger, Jawahar Matar, NP 29, Pant Matar 155, Vivek Matar 8 etc.
