Spinach occupies a prominent place among green leafy vegetables. In our country, it is mainly cultivated in the states of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala etc. To cultivate spinach commercially, get the necessary information related to its cultivation from here.

  • It is cultivated successfully in well drained clay loam soil having pH 7.

  • Apart from this, it also grows well in sandy clay soils and alluvial soils.

  • For better yield, spinach should be cultivated in cold climate.

  • The temperature of 15 to 30 degree centigrade is best for its cultivation.

Field Preparation and Fertilizer Management

  • While preparing the field, first plow the field 1 time with a soil turning plow.

  • After this, do light plowing 2 to 3 times.

  • For light tillage, use country plow, harrow or cultivar.

  • After this, make the soil of the field friable and level by applying a pat.

  • At the time of last plowing mix 8 kg fipronil with 10 to 12 tonnes of decomposed cow dung per acre of field.

  • Along with this, mix 20 kg nitrogen, 20 kg phosphorus, 24 kg potash per acre of field.

  • Spray 20 kg of nitrogen in the standing crop.

Irrigation and Weed Control

  • Apply light irrigation to the field immediately after sowing.

  • Do not let the soil of the field lack moisture.

  • Irrigate at an interval of about 7 to 8 days.

  • It is necessary to control weeds in the field.

  • To control weeds, keep weeding and hoeing at intervals of some time.

harvesting and production

  • The crop is ready for first harvesting 25 to 30 days after sowing.

  • After this you can harvest every 20 to 25 days interval.

  • After sowing once, crop can be obtained by harvesting 5 to 6 times.

  • Green leaves of spinach are obtained from 32 to 35 quintals per acre of field.
