paddy harvesting

लेखक - Dr. Pramod Murari | 2/10/2020

In most areas, paddy is harvested in the months of September-October. If paddy is not harvested at the right time, the yield may decrease. Along with this, adverse effect is also seen on the quality of the crop. Through this post, you can get information about the suitable time for harvesting paddy and some things to keep in mind at the time of harvesting.

suitable time for harvesting

  • Harvest the paddy when there is 20 to 25% moisture in the grains.

  • If 80 to 85% of the earrings turn yellow, then understand that the paddy crop is ready for harvesting.

tools for harvesting

  • In many areas, paddy is harvested with a sickle.

  • Laughing takes longer to harvest. Due to which the cost of harvesting is also high.

  • Apart from the laughter, the harvesting of paddy is also done with the combiner.

  • Combiner machines are available in many capacities. Some of which are driven by tractors and some are automatic machines driven by engines.

  • The time taken for harvesting with a combiner is much less and the cost of harvesting is also reduced.

What are the things to keep in mind while harvesting?

  • Avoid harvesting paddy in moist environment.

  • If the field is full of water, then remove the water from the field about 7 to 10 days before harvesting.

  • At the time of harvesting, keep all the paddy earrings in one direction. This makes it easier at the time of threshing.

  • Do not dry the paddy for a long time after harvesting.

  • Along with this, it is also necessary to protect the paddy crop from rain and dew (cold) after harvesting.

What to do with the residue left in the field?

  • Paddy residues are left in the field after harvesting. Burning them pollutes the environment.

  • To avoid this, spray 30 kg of urea per acre of land.

  • After this, plow and plant the pad.

  • Due to this, the residues of the paddy plants will dissolve well in the soil.

  • By doing this the soil will become more fertile and the requirement of nitrogen in the next crop will also be less.
