Apart from this, it can be sown till mid-November.
Seed quantity and seed treatment
About 8 kg of seed is required for cultivation per acre of land.
To protect the crop from various diseases and for better yield, treat seed with 2 grams of Countryside Seed Guard per kilogram of seed.
Before sowing treat seed with 2 gm Carbendazim or 2 gm Captan per kg of seed.
Apart from this, 2.5 grams of Thiram per kilogram of seed can also be treated.
Loamy soil is best suited for Rabi maize.
Apart from this, it can also be cultivated in heavy or sandy soil.
The pH level of the soil should be between 6.5 to 7.5 for better yield.
Field preparation and amount of fertilizer
After harvesting the Kharif crop, do two deep plowing of the field. For deep plowing, reversing plow or disc harrow can be used.
After this, do light plowing 2 times.
For good crop, mix 3 to 4 tonnes of well decomposed cow dung per acre of field.
48 kg of nitrogen, 24 kg of phosphorus and 16 kg of potash are required per acre of field.
Add half the amount of nitrogen i.e. 24 kg nitrogen and full amount of phosphorus and potash at the time of plowing the field.
Spray the remaining half of the nitrogen in the standing crop.
To make the soil of the field friable and level, after plowing, make sure to apply a pat.
Prepare the beds in the field for sowing the seeds.
Keep a distance of 60 cm between the beds, sow the seeds on these beds at a distance of 20 cm.
Sow the seeds at a depth of 5 cm.
Irrigation and Weed Control
A total of 4 to 5 irrigations are required in Rabi maize.
Do not let the lack of moisture in the field and make proper drainage arrangements to avoid the problem of water logging.
To control weeds, weeding is done at regular intervals.
At the time of weeding, keep in mind that instead of cutting the weeds, remove them from the root.
