soil and climate
-
It can be cultivated in sandy, sandy loam, alkaline and saline soil.
-
Loamy soil is best for the cultivation of barley.
-
If cultivated in a temperate climate, it will be able to get good yields.
-
The temperature at the time of sowing should be 25 to 30 degree centigrade.
-
It is generally cultivated in unirrigated areas.
Seed quantity
-
For timely sowing, 40 kg seed is required per acre of field.
-
If you are doing late sowing, increase the seed quantity by 15 to 20 percent.
Field preparation and amount of fertilizer
-
To make the field free from weeds, do one deep plowing.
-
After this, do light plowing 3 to 4 times.
-
While preparing the field add 7 to 10 tonnes of cow dung or compost manure
-
Be sure to plant a pad after plowing. This will make the soil of the field friable and level.
-
Make good drainage system in the field.
-
In irrigated areas, 24 kg of nitrogen, 16 kg of phosphorus and 12 kg of potash are required.
-
While preparing the field in irrigated areas, mix the full dose of phosphorus and potash equally with half the amount of nitrogen. Use the remaining nitrogen with the first irrigation.
-
In unirrigated areas, 16 kg nitrogen, 16 kg phosphorus and 12 kg potash should be mixed in the field while preparing the field.
Irrigation and Weed Control
-
Barley crop requires a total of 4 to 5 irrigations.
-
First irrigation should be given at the time of root development of plants i.e. 25 to 30 days after sowing.
-
Give second irrigation 40 to 45 days after sowing.
-
Third irrigation should be done at the time of flowering of plants.
-
Fourth irrigation should be given at the time of milk formation in the grains.
-
To control weeds, keep weeding and hoeing at intervals of some time.
harvesting and production
-
When the earrings start turning yellow or brown, then it should be harvested.
