  • The disease is caused by a fungus called Alternaria pori.

Symptoms of Purple Spot Disease

  • The disease begins with the older leaves of the plants.

  • Small oval spots appear on the leaves.

  • After some time the color of the spots starts turning from purple to brown.

  • The edges of these spots are yellow.

  • As the disease progresses, the yellow edges of the spots spread and lesions appear on the top and bottom of the leaves.

  • The leaves begin to wither.

  • The plant starts drying up.

Methods of Control of Purple Spot Disease

  • Select varieties resistant to purple spot disease.

  • Follow crop rotation to avoid this disease.

  • Control weeds.

  • Spray by mixing 200 grams Mancozeb 63 WP in 200 liters of water. This quantity is given per acre of field.

  • If required, re-spraying can be done at an interval of 15 days.

  • Spraying of fungicide containing copper can also prove to be effective in controlling this disease.
