Every year many tonnes of food grains get wasted in our country. One of the main reasons is storage. Farmers and other people associated with agriculture are not aware of the correct process of storing food grains. Due to lack of information, farmers' grains are not stored properly. In such a situation, through this post, we are telling the right way to store food grains.
After harvesting the crops, the process of storing them starts. After harvesting the crops it should be dried well in the sun.
If millet, wheat, maize, jowar etc. are being stored in sacks, then before storing the grain, keep the sacks in 1% malathion solution for 10 minutes. After this dry the sacks in strong sunlight for 5 to 6 hours. This reduces the risk of infestation of various pests.
Store the grains in the warehouse only after cleaning it thoroughly. Avoid storing grains in such a place if there are cracks or dampness in the room.
Use 2 to 3 percent zinc phosphide to control rats. If there are rat bills in the store house, then close it properly. Put a fine mesh in the windows of the store house.
Avoid placing sacks full of grain on the ground. Also make sure that the sacks are not adjacent to the wall. When adjacent to the wall, the grain may get spoiled due to dampness etc.
