Recommended varieties of moong for Kharif season

Moong is one of the major pulse crops cultivated in Kharif season. In our country, it is mainly cultivated in the states of Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu. It can be cultivated in all three seasons Kharif, Rabi and Zayed. Through this post, we have brought information about the recommended varieties of Moong for Kharif season.

  • Pusa 0672: Suitable for sowing in Kharif season. 380 to 400 kg crop is obtained per acre of land. Crops are ready in about 52 to 103 days. Its grain is medium sized, bright green and attractive.

  • Pusa Ratna: The crop is ready in 65 to 70 days after sowing of this variety. The crop yield is about 480 kg per acre of land.

  • Pusa 9531: This variety is cultivated mainly in the plains of Punjab, Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. Yield up to 480 kg per acre of land. It takes 60 to 65 days for the crop to mature.

  • Narendra Moong 1: It is one of the suitable varieties for cultivation in Bihar and Jharkhand. Apart from this, it is also cultivated in Uttar Pradesh and Assam. About 440 to 480 kg crop can be obtained by sowing per acre of field. This cloudy grained variety takes 65 - 70 days to ripen.

  • Ganga 8: This variety can be cultivated in both Kharif and Zaid. The incidence of yellow vein and bacterial blight is less on sowing of this variety. It takes about 72 days for the crop to be ready. The crop yield is 368 kg per acre of land.

  • MH-2 -15: It is ready to ripen in about 67 days. Cultivation of this variety in one acre of land gives a crop yield of up to 420 kg. It is mainly cultivated in Bihar , Jharkhand, Haryana, Rajasthan, West Bengal.

Apart from this many other varieties in Kharif season like Pant Moong-2, Pant Moong-4, Pant Moong-5, Meha, IPM-2-3, Shalimar Moong-1, Hum-1, Madhira-429, SML 668 , T 44 etc. are cultivated.
