Pests that damage crops during rainy season

लेखक - Dr. Pramod Murari | 4/8/2021

During the rainy season, there is an infestation of many types of pests in the crops. Be it traditional crops or medicinal plants, floriculture or fruit cultivation, special care is required during the rainy season. In this season, due to the abundance of moisture and weeds in the environment, there is a high possibility of pests to flourish. If you are also doing farming, then it is necessary to be aware of the various pests that damage crops this season and the measures to control them. Let us get to know in detail about this topic.

Pests that damage crops during rainy season

  • Bark-eating insects: The incidence of this pest is more in litchi trees. Usually these pests make tunnels or holes in the main trunk and thick branches of the tree. During the day, these pests live in holes made on stems and branches. At night, these insects come out and eat the bark of the tree. Due to their infestation, plant growth stops and yields are reduced. As the outbreak progresses, the trees gradually dry up. To control this pest, clear the nets from the main trunks and branches of the tree and try to kill the insects by inserting iron wire into the tunnel or small hole made by the insect. Apart from this, sprinkle 2 ml Chlorpyrifos in three liters of water.

  • Leaf borer: These insects lay eggs on leaves. The larvae that emerge from the eggs feed on the tender leaves of plants. Due to which small holes start appearing in the leaves. As the infestation progresses, the leaves become reticulated. To control this pest, destroy the eggs. To control this pest, mix 5 to 10 ml countryside cutter in 15 liters of water and spray it. Apart from this, you can spray by mixing 7-8 ml Coragen 18.5 percent SC in 15 liters of water.

  • Juice sucking insects: Insects like Thrips, Mighty, Mahu, Dhauliya insect, Moyla, damage the crop by sucking the sap of plants. Spraying with 1 ml imidacloprid per liter of water can be used to control mahu pest. Apart from this, 50 ml country hawk can be sprayed in 150 liters of water.
