There are many types of litchi. Of these, Muzaffarpur, Sahi, Early Large, Swarnrupa, Calcutta, Rose Center are prominent. It is mainly cultivated in Bihar , Jharkhand, Valley of Dehradun and Uttar Pradesh. About 50-60 kg of fruit can be obtained from one litchi tree.
The months of June-July are considered to be the best for planting litchi plants.
Fruit production is good in deep loamy soils.
Irrigation once a week is necessary to protect the new plant from heatstroke.
Plants should be irrigated generally during the summer season.
Regular irrigation is necessary at an interval of 10 to 15 days at the time of fruit development.
Due to lack of moisture in the soil and strong hot winds, litchi fruits crack more.
Spraying of 10 ppm, NAA and 0.4% borax should be done to prevent fruit cracking.
