Know these important things before cultivating basil

Consumption of Tulsi is very beneficial for our health. Its consumption increases immunity. Along with this, the surrounding air is also cleaned by planting Tulsi plants. Keeping in mind the increasing demand of Tulsi, farmers cultivating it can earn good profits. Suitable soil for Tulsi cultivation

  • Sandy loam soil is best for its cultivation.

  • It can be cultivated successfully even in less fertile land with proper drainage.

  • First of all, after deep plowing once in the field, the weeds present in the field should be destroyed.

  • After this, make the soil fine by plowing the field lightly.

  • While preparing the field add 10 to 15 tonnes of well decomposed cow dung per acre of field.

  • Apart from this you can also add 5 tonnes of compost per acre of land.

  • Do not use chemical fertilizers in the field to maintain the medicinal properties present in Tulsi.

  • The month of June-July is suitable for transplanting nursery prepared plants.

  • Planting should be done in line. This facilitates irrigation and weed control.

  • Keep a distance of 60 cm between all the lines.

  • Keep a distance of 30 cm between plants to plants.

  • Planting should be done in the evening.

  • Apply light irrigation immediately after transplanting.

Plant harvesting and production

  • Harvest the plants before flowering. After flowering, the amount of oil in the plants decreases.

  • Harvest the plants from about 25 to 30 cm above the ground surface.

  • If you are cultivating basil for leaves, then dry the leaves thoroughly after harvesting.

  • If Tulsi is cultivated to obtain oil, then leave the plants exposed for 4 to 5 hours after harvesting.

  • One can get 8 to 10 tonnes of leaves and 32 to 40 kg of oil per acre of land.
