लेखक - Dr. Pramod Murari | 29/4/2020

India ranks second in the production of sugarcane. Sugarcane is counted among high yielding crops. For more profit and good harvest, it is necessary for the farmers to know about the soil for its cultivation, sowing and harvesting.

  • October - November is the best month for sowing sugarcane.

  • Sowing of sugarcane in spring should be done in February-March.

  • For sugarcane cultivation, loamy soil, sandy soil, yellow soil and black heavy soil are best.

  • It is important to have good drainage system in the fields.

  • Weed control is necessary for about 4 months after sowing.

  • Irrigate once in every 15 days during cold season. At the same time, irrigate at about 8 to 10 intervals in summer.

  • For a good crop, cow dung and organic manure can be used.

  • All the rows of sugarcane should be tied to prevent the sugarcane from falling.

  • Along with this, the plants can be saved from falling by adding soil through the riser.

  • Plants sown in October-November should be soiled for the first time in February-March and second time in May.

  • Sugarcane should be harvested close to the ground surface.
