According to a report by Spices Board of India, 40% of the ice cream produced in the world is vanilla flavored. Apart from ice cream, vanilla is also used in cakes, cold drinks, chocolates, perfumes, and many beauty products. Its prices have been increasing very fast since last few years. Farmers can earn good income by cultivating it.
Important things for vanilla cultivation:
Vanilla crop is good in places with humidity and shade.
25 to 30 degree Celsius temperature is considered best for its production.
We can also cultivate it by putting a fountain in the shed house.
Vanilla crop starts giving yields about 3 years after planting.
There should be no stagnation of water in the cultivated area.
Planting in friable soil rich in organic matter produces good vanilla crops.
You can apply cow dung manure and earthworm manure to make up for the lack of organic matter in the soil.
The pH of the soil should be 6.5 to 7.5. Therefore, before planting the crop, make sure to test the soil.
