Onion is cultivated in all regions of India. It is mainly consumed as a vegetable and salad. It doesn't go bad for a long time. Due to high demand of onion in the market, farmers get a lot of benefit from its cultivation. So let's know some nuances related to onion cultivation.
Onion can be grown in all types of soil.
For its cultivation, light loamy soil containing organic matter, sandy loam soil is considered best.
The correct development of tubers is not known in heavy soils.
Before sowing, 4 - 5 ploughings should be done with indigenous plow.
Plants should be planted at a distance of 8 to 10 cm. Keep its depth 1 to 1.5 cm.
After sowing, sprinkle cow dung, soil and ash in the beds to cover the seeds.
Light irrigation is also necessary. This will provide enough moisture for the seeds to germinate.
Irrigation should be done at an interval of 12 to 15 days in cold season. In summer season it is better to irrigate at an interval of 7 to 10 days.
Before sowing, adding 1 kg of Basalin to the soil of the field does not remove weeds. Apart from this, weed control can also be found by spraying 6 liters of Tok E 25 in 1,000 liters of water per hectare of land after sowing.
It takes 140 to 150 days for the onion crop planted through seed to mature. If you are planting onions from tubers, then the crop will be ready in about 60 to 100 days.
Onion planted in Kharif season does not drop leaves when the crop is ready. The leaves of onion planted in Rabi season turn yellow and start falling.
If cultivated with the improved method of onion, the yield is from 200 to 350 quintals per hectare of land.
