According to the Agriculture Ministry data, there has been an increase of 18.50 per cent in sowing of main Kharif crops this year as compared to last year due to favorable rainfall in the third week of July. According to the data, in the year 2019, on July 24, major Kharif crops like paddy, pulses, coarse cereals and oilseeds were sown in 675.07 lakh hectares of land. At the same time, this year i.e. in the year 2020, these crops have been cultivated in 799.95 lakh hectares of land.
According to the data of the Ministry of Agriculture, in the year 2020 till July 24, paddy has been sown in a total of 220.24 lakh hectares of land. Talking about the year 2019, till July 24, paddy was sown in only 187.70 lakh hectares of land.
Sowing of pulses has also increased by more than 25 percent. The area under coarse cereals like jowar, bajra, ragi and maize has increased by 16.83 lakh hectares. There has also been an increase of 1.49 percent in Jute and Mesta. As per the statistics about three million farmers are engaged in the cultivation of jute.
