To encourage farmers, 'National Farmers Day' is being celebrated across the country today. National Farmers Day is celebrated every year on 23rd December on the occasion of the birthday of Chaudhary Charan Singh. It was started for the first time in the year 2001. On this day many programs are also organized in different regions of the country in the honor of farmers.
Chaudhary Charan Singh was the fifth Prime Minister of the country. He was born in a farmer family. During his tenure, he passed many bills for the benefit of the farmers. While working as the Prime Minister, in the year 1979, he also got the budget prepared in the interest of farmers. Along with this, he also led the fight against the policies of collective land use of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. He always supported the farmers. Keeping this contribution for the farmers in mind, farmers are honored on the occasion of National Farmers Day in India on 23 December.
